Humid summers grow algae
Kansas City stays humid enough through July and August that north- and east-facing walls never fully dry out. That is what feeds the green film on siding and the black streaking on roofs across the metro.
Winter salt scars concrete
Road salt and ice melt leave a chalky white scarring on driveways and walkways that will not rinse off on its own. Early spring is the right time to pull it off before another season sets on top of it.
Mature tree cover is a double-edged sword
The older neighborhoods on both sides of the state line have gorgeous canopy, and shade plus falling debris is exactly what organic growth needs. Shaded lots typically need washing more often.
