Here Is What Is Actually Going On
Wood left outside goes gray. That silver-gray layer is UV-damaged, oxidized fiber sitting on top of perfectly good wood, and underneath it the original color is still there waiting. Add the green algae film that shows up on the shaded boards and the whole structure starts looking like it needs replacing when it really just needs cleaning.
Wood is soft, so this is a job where restraint matters more than power. Too much pressure furs up the grain, gouges the boards and leaves permanent wand marks. We clean at pressures matched to the specific material, whether that is cedar, pine, pressure-treated, Trex or other composite, so the surface comes out clean and smooth, not shredded.

Can you clean a composite deck like Trex?
Yes, and it needs a lighter touch than wood. Composite can be permanently marred by high pressure, so we clean it with low pressure and the appropriate solution. It is one of the surfaces where hiring it out genuinely saves you money over a rental unit.
Do you stain or seal as well?
We handle the wash and the prep, which is the part that determines whether a stain job lasts. If you want staining done too, tell us on the quote and we will let you know what we can do or point you to someone we trust.
How soon can I stain after you wash?
Give it 48 to 72 hours of dry weather. Wood needs to release the moisture from cleaning or the stain will not penetrate and will peel early.
Will the gray really come out?
On most decks, yes, and dramatically so. The gray is a thin oxidized layer, not a change in the wood itself. Boards that are cracked, cupped or rotting are a different problem, and we will tell you if that is what we are looking at.
